Whats the width at the head end with it splayed out? Down filled part only.

40 inches across the top laid out flat on the floor. That's just the down filled part.

I will as soon as I get to it, been on the road a lot for work. I think rather than bar tack the the bottom I will prob. cut a "V" down the middle and use part of that to patch where the cut stops, similar to the golite and hammock gear top bags

I have a RAB quantum 600...it's rated to 10 degrees and has 800 fill down. What are the original bag's specs?

I just ordered a Rab Quantum Top Bag also and I"m looking forward to converting it to a top quilt. The project doesn't look too hard but at the same time I don't want to screw up a $100 bag. Time will tell.

If you have a scissors and a lighter you can do it. Cut a slit down the back. Heat seal the raw edges, maybe put a couple re-enforcement stitches at the end of the split and your done.
