Finding a Bed Among Central Park’s Trees - NY Times

I was googling around trying to find out exactly what the rules are for trees in NYC parks, as I was told that I couldnt hang a hammock yesterday and I found this! ...pretty awesome, but of course obscenely dangerous.

    Heres the link:

Thats awesome. Whats best about that is no one looks up to find anyone. I would be worried about people messing with my stuff if I laid on the ground. But up in a tree...no one would think of it. Perfect. Makes me want to do it when I am in the city Tuesday. Cept its supposed to pour so maybe not...

Pretty great idea for the stealth part, but I do not think I would sleep a wink way the hell up there like that.

its all in the mind. locally we have Cherry point landing and it has some big, curvy trees. not so much tall as they are wide and branches spread. one tree you can climb up about 15ft and hang around 20ft off the floor, which is nice. it can be a bit disconcerting, like swimming and not being able to touch the bottom. in actuality, the hammock is just as safe 100ft up as it is 2ft up. its just the fall (and subsequent stop) that gets you into trouble.

The one in NY looks like a HH. The ones on the walls look kind of like bridge hammocks. I don't think the platform looks quite as comfortable though; not enough give.

In the link to the story is a slideshow, and it looks the they are using HH explorers.
I thought I was wrong once, turns out I was wrong about that.
