May I Borrow or Rent Your Hammock?

    Hi.

I'm an Assistant Scoutmaster for a suburban Chicago Scout Troop and will be attending 3 nights of this summer's troop Scout camp. I've been lurking on the forums for a bit and am almost ready to by a hammock, but I can't justify the cost right now as I am "in transition" from work.

So...I'm wondering if there is a kind soul out there that would be willing to allow me to rent or borrow their set up for a few days? I'm 6'4", 240 lbs, so I am particularly interested in a Warbonnet 1.7 or a HH Explorer Deluxe. I had a mesh hammock when I was a Scout and have been fascinated by the idea of hammock camping ever since. I don't think I will have any more camping nights this year beyond this partial week with the troop, so renting or borrowing seems logical to me. Am I out of line asking?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

    Regards,

    Jeff Sidler

It might help to know when you would need it. I have a DIY the size of a ENO doublenest I could send to you if there is time. It has no bug net so I'm not sure it would fit you needs or not. It is set up with ring buckles but you might have to supply webbing straps yourself.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

    Good Point Ramblin Rev.

I'd need it by Saturday, 7/16 as we leave the next morning. I'm only staying through Wednesday of that week. The camp is in Wisconsin so a bugnet is pretty key I think, especially if we have a hot week where you sleep on top of your bag.

Just to put this out there for what it is worth.

REI has an extremely generous return policy.

    Cheers

    Jeff,

    Where in Wisconsin?

I am in Wisconsin, near Appleton. I have a simple gathered end, single layer, polyester fabric, webbing suspension hammock with ridge line. It does not have a bugnet, but I think I (you) could get my Chrysalis bug net to work with it fine (I could set it up tomorrow to confirm). Alternatively, if you want to try a bridge, you could use my modified Chrysalis (body only, lighter spreaders, whoopie slings) with the Chrysalis net (a heavier, but in my opinion, more comfortable alternative).

I would only need your name, address, SSN, credit card number, and rights to your firstborn. (OK just kidding about the firstborn, we have enough kids).

Seriously though, although I know that neither of these are the WB or HH you specifically mentioned, if either option would work and you are willing to throw in $15 for shipping it to you (and you'd still have to ship it back). Or free if you wanted to pick up/drop off.

And you definitely want a bug net. The skeeters are friggin' horrible up here right now.

    PM me if interested.
