About how much did it cost you?
The 7 yards of Sil 2nds were my main expense...about $45. The webbings and plastic parts cost me another 10 or so, as well as the 1.75 mm Utility line about $15 (I bought more of this then was used on the tarp). Total...about $60-65, not including S&H.

Go for it! The real satisfaction with this stuff is that you created the gear. And you can personalize any way you want...

The tarp looks awesome!!! It sounded like you were having a little trouble with the seam sealing not working right? If I am not mistaken, you need to use a silicone seam sealer on sil as the regular seam sealer doesnt stick very well to the sil. you can make some from 1 part 100% silicone to 3-4 parts oderless mineral spirits or buy it (like Mcnetts). Just noticed the seam sealer in the first picture and it looks like regular sealer. The tarp really looks great, and the injecting looks top notch!

Chicky - Great work! Tarps are big and cumbersome gear to run through the thread injector and the quality of your work shows the time and care you took in the construction. That tarp will serve you well and you should be proud of a job well done. Having made a tarp myself (and some other diy gear) I second your comment to Brian at OES - I don't know how they manage to make such fine gear and not charge more...

This fall at Clemson you will be even closer to the mountains and the Chattooga. Find a outdoors / backpacking group on campus and dive right in. Good luck, college is one of the greatest times in life! Enjoy your time there.

Awesome looking Tarp. And you'll always know which is your's with the white reinforcement patches.

I know this is an old thread, but a trap is one my DIY list, I was doing some research and bookmarking. This is really a fine job with a good explanation and examples of the process.

    Thanks for doing it.

really nice work..you should be proud of yourself, tarps aren't easy due to the amount of material you have to work with.
