Poncho liner to underquilt

I know I read an article or series of posts on this or another forum before, but since I am a bit lazy . . .

Has anyone converted a poncho liner to an underquilt? I have two that I want to convert to make underquilts out of for HH

Anyone? Anyone? Beuller????

I think your right there is another thread on liner, did not find it tho

poncho liner should be similar, draw strings at head and foot.

I have a Ranger Rick kit to put a head hole and zippers on mine some day, I think I may put draw strings in too for aux uq duty

Right now, I own several poncho liner /underquilts. From the cheap one shown, to a leightweight synthetic filled from Exped

to those from JRB.
I havent done any hammocking since late October 07, due to bad health. So neither the No Sniveller nor the RM No Sniveller have been used outside.
The cheap one has been used, together with the Ponch as shown, down to temperatures of 10°C (no wind, low humidity), the Exped one got spare clothing added. And I am a cold sleeper.
I can definitly recommend this system for the beginner. The Poncho Liner did cost me € 20,- and adding the head slit the same. Before I found the Poncho, I used a cheap hammock (Byer of Maine Mosquito for € 25,-), filled with the liner and strapped under my hammock, for warmth retention from below.

I tried using a poncho/tarp as an underquilt and got a little too much condesation under my rear end. Was a little worried about where it came from ...

I finally managed to find my poncho liner. I don't think it is actually a liner, as there is no head-hole, but that is the only reason. I was very excited to find it, been looking for awhile! I figure that I can use it when camping, and now I plan to use it as an underquilt, at least temporarily.

The poncho liners don't have head holes. Someone sells a conversion kit to put in the head hole and use a zipper, forget who though.

TiredFeet, thanks for the info! I like it better as a blanket, as I haven't taken to using my poncho instead of my rain jacket/pants.

Does any one know anything about the site http://handyhammock.com/products.html. They have a pretty good price on poncho liners and after this thread I thought I'd give it a try as a cheap summer underquilt/quilt.
