I am looking at ripstop to buy, and most of the 1.9oz I see says it is 70 denier. Is that just the standard for 1.9oz? or is it special thickness? Would it be good for hammocks?

70 D is standard for 1.9 and very usable for hammocks. 70 D is a measure of thread size and is roughly related to fabric weight but not directly. Weave pattern, fabric density and coatings also figure into weight beyond the denair rating of the fiber.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.
"Bless you child, when you set out to thread a needle don't hold the thread still and fetch the needle up to it; hold the needle still and poke the thread at it; that's the way a woman most always does, but a man always does t'other way."
