Okay, so the hangin' bug bit me and I ordered a GTUL and then a Hennessy. I worked over the Hennessy with 1/8" whoopie slings, some long tree straps from Arrowhead and a couple Camp Nano biners for the strap end.

That left the original Hennessy tree straps and some line. I transferred those over to the GTUL. Then I decided I liked the easy setup with the whoopie slings, so I made a pair for the GT and I put a pair of Wild Country Nitro carabiners in the channel, like the GT Nano. That makes for a nice day hike rig that is just a pound complete. I can still use the stock Hennessy tarp for a lightweight overnighter. The hardware can all be re-used on a new rig if that comes up.

Cost: $48

Hammock: $15
Carabiners: $15/pair
Tree straps: free, or $8 if you count the straps I bought to replace them
20' 1/8" Amsteel $10

That's a cool mod, all my kids use GTULs. Maybe I'll be a copycat...

Very nice Mods! I did the same to my GTUL (which I gave away) but instead I used 7/64th amsteel and just larksheaded it to the hammock via going through the end channel!

I thought about using the larks head approach, but I didn't know if the Amsteel would wear or cut into the cloth. I put a small braided line through the channel to keep the fabric away from the gate on the carabiner. It isn't tied tight, just enough to gather the cloth and keep it there.
