    maccat micro for little people

    Hi everybody:

I'm new here, and relatively new to hammock camping. Looking to get myself out of my big old heavy Eddie Bauer "backpacking" hammock and into something I can actually carry, so I ordered my supplies today to make my hammock and bug netting.

But--I'm thinking about buying a tarp instead of making one, specifically the Maccat micro... I'm only 5 feet tall, so one of the reasons I wanted to make my own hammock was to shave off all that extra length and make it more comfortable for myself in the process... Do any shorter people have experience with the micro? It seems like it will still be long enough to cover a hammock that's, say, 7.5 feet long with plenty of extra tarp. I guess my only concern is the lost coverage on the sides...

    Any advice?

    Thanks--NLT

depends on how likely you are to be out in bad weather, if you will be, a larger tarp is worth a few extra oz.

You might try calling Brian up and asking if he can make something special up for you. It'd be a longer wait and more money, but maybe worth it to you?

That or just go with the maccat standard. Maybe you could talk him into making you one in spintex.
