@ All Happy to share!
Yeah it was a lot of weight. Most of my gear was not field tested so I brought back up gear plus a little extra to make up for what the boys didn’t carry. I used a golite pinnacle and once home I fiddled with my load and if I did same trip today I could easily go well under 20lbs under those conditions.
The sleeping gear was 2 Swiss sleeping bags (overkill but all we had and I carried 1) the boys used those! I used two small down blankets I bought on closeout at sport mart for 3 bucks a piece and in those conditions a lite blanket was plenty. Plus I striped down my first aid kit, cook kit (I was carrying for 3), don’t need all the rope next time but will carry a little. I didn’t need my thermarest! Ill trade rain gear for a throw-a-way poncho. Plus a few more tweaks.
Yeah it was hot but I had the itch and it had to be scratched no mater the temp! I really didn’t mind, I just need to be better prepared the next time (training for the hike in the heat). The best part of it was time in the woods with my son and nephew and that would have been worth a heart attack (figuratively speaking). Simply priceless!
I figured Id try a can with holes drilled in but the hardware cloth would work too thanks for the idea!
Live simply, love generously, care deeply, speek kindly and leave the rest to God!
I think that it's fantastic that you got out there with your family, despite the obstacles of heat, etc. That sort of defines "quality time."
I know what you mean about the heat - I live in Florida and don't even think about hiking here in the summer.

Cool.....I mean HOT))))))
Good attitude for such a heavy pack.
If you lighten up some you will have even more fun out there in the piney woods. Less weight, well thought out gear choices, hammock equals fun.
