I just saw on another forum that Rab (English Mountaineering) bags are on sale for 60% off at Department of Goods. I have a couple of their bags with Pertex shells and they were great in the wet weather.

    http://www.departmentofgoods.com/rab

    Here's a TQ by them:

    Additional Discount:

    6J4-1-2HMB

"Today – July 13th 2011 DepartmentofGoods.com is offering $40 off on orders of $200 or more, and the coupon is valid for all products.
This is pretty sweet considering their prices are 40-60% below retail to start with."

All orders over $50 qualify for Free Standard Shipping

Dale Gribble: I'm thinking, "new hammock." For me, laying and swaying in a hammock is like a steady morphine drip without the risk of renal failure.

Randy : yea but just remember yer roots and where ya come from....you got Hennessy in yer blood son......

    This was the thread.

I was tempted to pick up the top bag too and convert to a TQ, but I came across this review at BPL that said the insulated width at the shoulder was only 40". As a side sleeper I figured the insulated area wasn't wide enough if I have to go to ground. The extra girth bag has a 44.5" wide insulated section at the shoulder, but that isn't available.

They have some good deals on their bags - I ordered an Atlas 750 bag. It looks like if you leave it unzipped it should be a warm TQ, albeit a little on the heavy side.

Thanks for the heads up. Just ordered the quantum. Now I can quit carrying around my 4 pound synth sleeping bar. Should make a decent summer quilt and a great TV watching couch quilt for this winter

I like about 15 miles from the Rab UK Factory where most of the high-end gear is assembled or produced, as a result their factory shop is also there. I've had a fair few sleeping bags over the years, but Rab stuff is unbelieveably good. I have two of their bags; the Ascent 900 and the Neutrino 200 and they're light as a feather and warm as toast!

I just wanted to thank everyone for this thread. I bought one of the bags and just finished modifying it and it looks like it is going to work wonderfully.

I slit the back straight down the middle until about 6" from where the down starts. I did a rolled hem on each side of the slit, then did a bar tack where the hems met. It looks pretty good, despite my lackluster sewing skills, and should work great.

The bag in it's stuff sack is 501 grams after modifications. That is pretty spectacular for a $100 quilt.

Very good bags. I have a couple of them and I really like the water resistant Pertex Quantum fabric married with down.
