    Tie outs

Ok... getting everything dialed in and waiting for the postman to get in gear. I'm using a CRL setup from Dutch (he's the man) on my The Edge tarp from WB. So I'm having trouble deciding exactly what I want to do with the corner tie outs. Shock cord or zing it?... or am I leaving something out that I missed in research? Wanting some opinions/advice on what you fine fellas are using in a similar situation. Also for attaching to the tarp/stakes. Honestly I wouldn't be opposed to just tying it off around the stake. I'm using Vargo Titanium Ascent stakes. Looking for insanely lightweight options and of course easy peasy.

    Thanks peeps!

    A little bit of both.

A couple of inches of shock cord with loops on both ends. Girth hitch one end to the corner of the tarp. Girth hitch the other end to the Zing-It. This makes it self-tensioning and also makes a "fail safe" where the shock cord will break before the tarp rips.

I use this method I stole from HF member Dylan. I've since added a loop of shock cord on the tarp and larksheaded that on to my guyline. I also have a Spinn Standard and don't need the tensioner so even though a little more $$$, some weight savings. Hope that helps.

I made some auto-tensioners for my SF. I made about a 5-6 inch surgical tubing tensioner (like the ones tht JRB sells), put them in some camlocks, and used an 8 ft length of zing-it to go to my stakes. I put a 2 inch locked brummel eye-splice in the end of the zing-it for the stakes, and back-spliced the adjustable pull end at the camlocks. They are very similar to these.

Just the way that I made them...I find they are very easy to adjust and keep my tarp pitched very tight.

Tendertoe that sounds incredibly easy and awesome! I think I might have to experiment and try that out. I'm notoriously bad at anything DIY, but that sounds very minimalist and effective!

Report back with how it works. It is but one of many ways to get your tarp tied down.

I put a bit of a spin on the method demonstrated at :48 here. Except that instead of "larks heading" the prussic to the d ring, I go to the shock cord as I mentioned before. I also don't have the fancy surgical tubing tensioners in the video either - the shock cord does the same thing.

So you would have the tarp d ring, shock cord girth hitched onto the d ring, shock cord girth hitched to the loop of the prussic, prussic attached to the Zing-It.

    YMMV

I just go with one foot of 3/32" shock cord at the hammock and use Zing-it the rest of the way to keep the weight down. Braided mason line could be used as well.
