2011 Texas Fall Group Hang ver 3.1 - November 11-13, Fairfield Lake State Park

Looking back at the past string of 100 degree days and seeing the forecast for the same for the foreseeable future has me dreaming about cooler weather.

Back in May, Cogneato took the initiative to start us all thinking about another fall hang and he’s right it’s time. Cogneato’s Kickoff (aka: Texas Fall Hang ver 3.0)

So, Let's get a Fall Group Hang planned!

Based upon a few conversations and tradition, the second weekend in November, (11/11-13) seems to still be a good one for many and the location, Fairfield Lake State Park seems popular so unless there’s a major conflict, let’s go with that date and place.

    Brief history…
In a very short time, what started with a handful of folks getting together in the trees during the first few months of 2009, a group hang in the fall of that year was planned and a couple of dozen folks had a great time. The next year, 2010, the numbers doubled. I guess word got out that we’re a welcoming, family friendly group that has a good time.

The fun has included car camping for those who like to bring everything; (the location has showers and porcelain facilities for those who won’t leave home without them); day hikes for those inclined; fishing; pot luck dinners; Dutch oven cooking; DIY play time; lots of show and tell along with a little gear trading; group buys; stove tests; and some wonderful campfire fellowship.

So let’s build on this and get this party started!

Let’s toss around ideas of things to do to make this year even better. Commit if you’re ready or give a maybe if you’re interested.

From the initial thread and posts below, here are the folks who have voiced an interest in going:

    Yes I’ll be there!
    Cogneato - Waco
UncleMJM + Cindy – College Station
    Texas Longhorns - College Station
    Alan - Houston
    KerMegan - Irving
Oldgringo – The Northern Territory (OK)
    jrs - AR/NM
    Tarp - Frisco
    ^Shane^ + Pamela - Arlington
Randy + Posse - New Waverly
Captn + the tear drop First Mate - Houston
    Sandpiper + 1- Cypress
    Bablefish5 - Conroe

Didn’t say so for sure but expected:
    TBCTX – TX/NC

    I’m Interested!
CLB – North East Piney Woods
    Caleath - Paris
    Tobus - Texas
Mad777 (if daughter can get her priorities right for grandpa) - Florida
    calcmuzzy - Alabama

KM(who will be putting up a pic of 'how much gear CAN you fit in a Miata?" as soon as she gets home to where the pics are stashed..)

hmm.. would that count as 'ultralight car camping'?

How did you know it was my midlife crisis purchase?!? It's like you can read my mind. Spooky!

(I can always use the wife's truck if I want to haul the kayak.)

    cooler times!

cooler weather? almost forgot what that was! though I did spend 5 weeks up in colorado in apr/may and it snowed on and off the whole time. except for a few days I hammock camped between Pinon trees the entire time. Got my new personal records set for highest elevation and lowest temp, 12.6 degrees at 8800 feet, and I know I'm gonna smash that next time I get up there! Sure could use some of that cool weather now! how'bout a partial solar ecllipse?

... so it's pretty far for me to get up to fairfield, we'll have to see how things go, work, budget, ect.

got a mod in mind for my blackbird, should have that done before nov, i hope!

til then it's hanging in my office, the living room, the shop, or out on the porch for the sunset ..... that is until I head up to upstate NY for a month in aug/sept, then again I'll be hammock camping every nite, even though there's a nice house to stay in, it's usually full of nieces, sisters, etc, and a man needs his space!

Great, I hope you can too - and don't come alone, bring the family if you can. If there's any water left in Texas by then there's also some paddling available to you too.
