    yeah, blame hammocks:

Used to love trees in all their diversity.
Now, I'm paying as much attention to the space between them.
When there's a tree I like, I fault it for being so.....isolated. One's never enough.
I'm only liking it for one thing; and then I'm immediately looking to find fault with it.
What with the faults of the older ones, like dead branches,
.... it is unseemly that I'm most attracted to 20-some year olds.

People on this forum love to tell others about their great new hammock they just received. Does anyone have a bad experience with a hammock?..Couldn't find two trees on a trip?..Didn't think a hammock was that comfortable? (any particular one?)

I am sure everybody has got CBS at some point and/or has fallen out of a hammock (if you haven't...just wait). I want to know what bad experiences have befallen people in this community.

Let me start off...Hammocks are terrible if you are drunk. When your world is spinning, the last thing you need, is to lay in a hammock that does not stop swaying....lesson learned.
I'm sure that I'm a total minority since this is a hammock forum after all, but I actually like/love my Big Agnes Copper Spur UL 1 tent and I still use it from time to time. I'm a stomach sleeper so sleeping on the ground is actually comfortable for me. As long as the ground is level etc. I also take a serious weight penalty when I hang compared to my under 3 lb tent. I'm not using micro sized tarps and since I no longer camp using my Nano-7 I can't save weight there either. That said, I absolutely love my WB Superfly and I like/love my WB Blackbird and will continue to hang whenever I'm not tenting. One of the things that I enjoy the most with a hammock is that it stays clean, gets me above crawling things, gives me a huge dry living area, I don't have to get on my knees to get in or out of it, and without a doubt it is a totally sexy piece of gear.

Yes I still get cold butt and shoulder from time to time because the uq or CCF or tq or sleeping bag shifted but it's easy to fix.

Retired, so I hated just having to get out... at 9:00a. I also hate not finding out about hammocking until too late in our season last year. Eagerly awaiting the fall.

    I agree with you KP.

"..... I actually like/love my Big Agnes Copper Spur UL 1 tent ......"

I love lying on my back, with the arch of a dome tent creating a vault above me. Gives me a sense of security and safety. But I still get a better sleep in any of my hammocks!

I hate that every time I leave my hammock while enjoying time with friends I return to find someone in it who then refuses to leave.

I hate it that my wife actually wants me to do stuff around the house. Her honey do list cuts into my hammock gear tesing and tweeking time.

    Horror Story.....

One of my first hammocks was an Army hammock complete with bug net etc.
Was 12 - 13 miles into the trail, and 20 ish miles to go.....first night near midnight i was laying soundly, and RIIIIIPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!! the bottom ripped out and i came crashing to the ground....after rolling around in pain, and getting the rest of the group to stop laughing, it was then I ALMOST stopped hammocking.....
SPent the rest of the hike on the cold hard ground......

    Darn i hate that.....

I can totally relate to that. Hammocks have ruined my appreciation of stand-alone trees.
