    Hammock Hate

Well, I am tired of reading the awesomeness of hammocks on this forum . This thread is to discuss the awfulness of hammocks .

People on this forum love to tell others about their great new hammock they just received. Does anyone have a bad experience with a hammock?..Couldn't find two trees on a trip?..Didn't think a hammock was that comfortable? (any particular one?)

I am sure everybody has got CBS at some point and/or has fallen out of a hammock (if you haven't...just wait). I want to know what bad experiences have befallen people in this community.

Let me start off...Hammocks are terrible if you are drunk. When your world is spinning, the last thing you need, is to lay in a hammock that does not stop swaying....lesson learned.

I am a self proclaimed consumer ***** gearaholic. Hammocks anger me because a good portion of the awesome shiny new gear that is available in stores is meant for ground dwelling. I drool over the cool new tents, ground pads, and sleeping bags, but then I have to leave, sad and gearless, to go buy awesome hammock gear on the internet. Oh well.

Also, there is a real big loss in the social aspect of hanging out at night in a tent with your buddies. Unless you are stacking hammocks vertically, or somehow find a magical grove of trees that are the perfect distance apart all right next to each other, you just can't have that with hammocks. Sure there is the campfire, but eventually you just want to go lay down in your warm sleeping bag away from the bugs. Ground dwelling doesn't end the social time there, hammocks do.

    Grumble.

Oh, but I still love my hammock. It's the best. (Better than everyone else's, because it's mine. )

When I was "testing the water" with hammocks I decided to buy a cheap one to see if I liked it. I bought a ENO doublenest and played with it for 6 months. I have never been even close to comfortable in that hammock. I was about to throw in the towel and stay on the ground but I figured maybe there was a difference between a $60 and $200 hammock. Luckily I ordered a JRB bridge and have hung ever since. I'm glad I stuck with it. I have since ordered a blackbird and am seriously considering getting a hennesy.

I miss the warmth of my Hammock Princess. ): (but neither one of us is willing to go back to the tent)

I hate it that I get a full nights sleep in one of these dang things. Use to be able to see all kinds of stellar events, like stars and stuff. Now, I lay down and fall asleep.

Also, I hate that I don't have to carry my 5800 CU Inch backpack anymore, and that I can get by on the cheapo 2600 pack. I look like a wimp.

I had a horrible experience this morning.... I had to get out of my hammock and go to work...
We would be one step closer to world peace, if everyone slept in a hammock..

so far my most hated part of hammock camping is getting out!!! this is my first year using a hammock and i love the comfort and the ability to get off the ground. i have lucked out and have been able to find the "perfect grove" of trees that me and my hiking pals have been able to hang in a circle around a camp fire. lucky i guess!!
