Down Sleeping bag found at Good Will

    Hey,

I need some help my Mom Loves to go hunting at the goodwill's around town and beyond. She found and bought me a (Eastern Mt. Sports) Duck Down sleeping bag for 5.00 bucks.

I need some help though I called the company and the style number I gave them is to old. I need to find out the sleep rating on it. So I thought I would come here and ask.

Here is what I have off of the sticker.

    DUCK DOWN
    Style N. 4042
    Net Wt. 40 oz
550 Cubic inches per Ounce ?

Its faded on the back but I can make out 550 on the back with Cubic inches per Ounce on the back of the main tag. However it is faded. Any help would be great.

There are more experienced guru's here that can probably answer better, but what is the loft of the bag in inches? Loft height is usually a decent indicator of warmth.

No worries! Just lay the sucker out on the floor nice and flat, give it some time to rest (maybe even shake it up a bit to restore as much loft as possible) and then plop a ruler next to it vertically. There is a rough estimate formula that is something like 100-(40*Top Loft in Inches) = Temperature rating. Once again, very rough. That's from Ray Jardine, not me. lol When I say top loft, I am referring to half the total loft. (A top quilt with 2.5" of loft is approximately the same rating as a sleeping bag with 5" of loft)

great find man. Im with stefprez. you just gotta measure it like he said it will tell a little more about the rating on it
Dale Gribble: I'm thinking, "new hammock." For me, laying and swaying in a hammock is like a steady morphine drip without the risk of renal failure.

Randy : yea but just remember yer roots and where ya come from....you got Hennessy in yer blood son......

Jealous. What a find. I am looking for a used down bag now, but never even dreamed of $5.
