    Cottage Industries

We, in the hammock camping community, are fortunate to have a number of folks working from their homes, supplying us with the products we need to pursue this grand obsession. To a man and woman, they are good, decent folk who deserve our support any time we open our wallets.

They are not always the cheapest source for a given product, because little guys buying in small quantities simply cannot compete head to head with high volume retailers. They more than make up for this, in my view, with personal service, quick shipping (same day, in many cases), advice, and friendship.

My plea: do business with them every chance you get. As attractive as group buys, group discounts, and volume pricing may be, they take desperately needed business away from the cottage folk that contribute so much to this community. If you want them here tomorrow, support them today.

    Thanks,
    OG

OG speak wisely. Right on dude. Very insightful. That's all I got this AM, a challenge I will take seriously.
Revolution is about the need to re-evolve political, economic and social justice and power back into the hands of the people, preferably through legislation and policies that make human sense. That's what revolution is about. Revolution is not about shootouts.

I absolutely agree, and want to ad to OG's post that it's also topnotch quality gear. I'm hard to impress, but have so far been impressed with everything i ordered from a US based cottage vendor. Keep up the good work guys

(But you are an evil man OG - you are making me feel bad, because i have no money to spend until the 1.)

I have agree, for the most part, with the OldGringo.

I'd add though, that gear from cottage gear manufactures isn't necessarily for everyone.

Sometimes these folks get backed up due to large volume of orders, limited supplies of necessary material, or they just need to go hiking and get away from their shops.

I've been waiting for 4 weeks on a tarp, but it's worth it to me and I get that sometimes you just aren't going to get the instant gratification from cottage gear types.

If you can't those types of things you should probably settle for something mass produced.
