Looks like a good idea, I'll add it to the list of projects.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.
That IS a good idea. I think I'd simplify the system by using the knotted double cord, the rain cover (garbage bag) and stuff sack and hang the whole thing from a convenient branch. That jib thing is a little too fussy for my taste. Still, a good idea!

I made something like this once for canoe camping. I used a dollar store dog collar as my tree connector and some glow cord as the main line. Up and down the main line I attached some small metal S hooks using prussik knots.
It was more of an organizer than this. It didn't have any weather protection and it had individual items on it like the camp toilet paper and bug spray rather than the rest of your gear.
It also just hung down against the tree.
I suspect you could make this so it doesn't need to be set away from the tree.
I imagine a rain cover the wraps around sarong style with some Velcro. Any rain blowing against the closure would probably just drip down rather than get in but I'd have to test that.
At the tree you'd just need something like a tree strap with a dutch clip and going down it several sliders like you adjust your backpack shoulder straps with. These would have holes in the tab or hooks in them like the elephant adjusters and you'd slide them up or down the webbing to make your gear fit.
The bottom might need a stake or tie it back to the tree trunk for windy conditions.
When you need to get to something you'd just pull open the wrap like looking out a window with closed curtains.
The tricky part would be the top of the wrap where the webbing goes in/out.
If it were cuben it would be both light and you'd be able to see where your stuff is under the wrap before you open it which would be nice in the rain.
I use a couple lines like that hanging from the overhead joists in my garage. I have overhand loops with mini-biners to hang packs, trekking poles, helmets--- anything with it's own strap. The bag is very clever.
I would use a trash compactor bag for the black bishop bag and seal it to the line with some silicone glue and some whipping. Then it could double as a liner for your backpack.
Many areas have issues with rodents chewing gear. Getting your stuff off the ground might help. A pie plate on the line could help keep them away from the top side-- that is done by some with bear bags.
This is perfect for the northwest in some areas you can get to a p.oint in elevation where the nearest tree branch that could support any sort of weight would require the use of a batman style grappling gun. However the ground is full of ants. I am going to add this to my list for sure

Glad you like my idea. I'm very new to hammocking and was struggling to organise my kit which is how the idea came about. Originally designed with the jib for trees with no lower branches. Good to see you guys thinking of ways to adapt it, simplify it etc for your own purposes.Originally Posted by Simon
