    Talking My first whoopie slings!

    Hi all,

Further to my nacrabiners earlier, I just made my first whoopie slings

I was really surprised how easy it was so I hope they will work

They are black 7/64 amsteel and have a maximum length of 77" and weigh 20g!

    Thanks for looking,

    Neil

They look great, how long did it take to make them ? I will probably be ordering some Amsteel and trying to make some for my boys hammocks.

Lookin' good Rask! It gets addicting, beware. You'll be splicing every piece of line you can think of before you know it.

Thanks Syb - I'm already thinking of adjustable ridgelines...

It honestly took me about 40 mins to make the first one - you definitely need to have a go at these, because if I can do it then anyone can...

It took me longer to find the wire to use to make them than making them themselves

what kind of wire did you use? Seems like i saw a post where someone used a E string off a guitar to do theirs.

I saw a thing called a "bodkin" at walmart. It looked like a foot long 1/8 inch needle with a tiny ball at the end. I will be getting one. And your whoopies are nice, I like the color. Goes with anything.
An emergency of my own making...is still an emergency.

Funnily enough I destroyed anything in my shed that had wire in it! I settled on some garden wire with the plastic coating removed, but it was still a little thick for the 7/64 at about 1mm in diameter.

Any thin wire would be great -I used the doubled over wire to pull the ends through rather than as a needle.

Thanks Hippofeet - It's the black amsteel, which actually looks more like a graphite grey. I quite like it as over in the UK there is more of a reason to use dull colours for a bit of stealth...

I use 18# floral wire. I tried the guitar string method and it didn't work too well. However, I did use it today while splicing some Kelty Trip Tease (re-read Syb's words) and it was all I had that would fit between the strands.

    Made mine also...

Yeah i finally got mine made also last night. Funny thing, used a piece of electrical ground wire instead of a needle or floral wire and it worked great. Took maybe 15 minutes on each one after really having problems on biners and other things without the ground wire. Gets kind of addictive afterr a while.
