A cheap & simple solution to no-trees hanging

After several false starts, over the last year or so, I've developed a pretty good system of hammock hanging, for powered riders, where there may not be trees or posts to 'hang' from - see YouTube:

$40 is cheap & 13 lbs., carried aboard your powered ride, is portable.

Clean and simple. I like it!
Consider adding a fixed ridgeline to give you good tension between your uprights so it's all stable and still allow the proper 30 degrees of sag.
I love the way your uprights break down and go back together so solidly. Brilliant!!

There is no way I would trust 1" PVC as legs. Watching the video and seeing the legs bow as they are loaded confirms it for me.

While I compliment you on the design, I would suggest using a stronger material or at least keep the video rolling.

+1 on stronger legs. The basic concept is great. I would like it a little taller too. You could attach the motorcycle strap to the same eye bolt as the hammock, which would eliminate the eye screw and get all the stress and pull in one spot. In fact, the strap and hammock suspension could all attach to the eye bolt on the same biner, dropping the weight and cost and the pull is all in one line, with a vector down through the legs. I could see this adapted to 2x4 lumber bipods for car camping or back yard setups.

The double nails and chain rig is pure genius. You could do this on the beach with buried pieces of driftwood for deadman anchors.

You could also switch to whoopi slings instead of the tie down straps and use a nacrabeiner instead of the eye-screw attachment for the strap. At the top where the eyebolt goes through just loop the nacra around the X point, lightens the load. I am afraid if you increase the length of the legs you are goin to allow more flex which will lead to them breaking.

+1 there! Finding the right material is the job--- the design is so compact and light (and cheap) and you can carry it off with a handsaw and drill--- no fancy tools required.

I have some 1-1/2" aluminum wing spar tubing from Boeing that might work, but I wouldn't want to cut it into short sections. Lashing would be cool too. Running around with 6' tubes on your motorcycle probably isn't the best option

I had some titanium tubing at one time -- that would get the eyeballs poppin'

Bamboo poles maybe?

Loving the chain nail idea! For car-campers, I think galvanized rigid conduit would probably be strong enough if not too long (avoid the thin wall or non-metallic versions though). I may have to give this a try. Thanks.
