Well I was excited about my new DDHammock purchase but now...

I'm sure the hammock will be nice if I ever get it but who in there right mind thought it was a good idea to require a signature on delivery of a less than $50 item?

I work for a living so I can't be at the house at 10:00am to sign for the package and Fedex is requiring a photo ID of the person the package is going to like it's a high dollar item. So now I have to put it on hold and drive an hour away after work to pick the stupid thing up. I'm not sure I even want to use it this summer now which is a shame since this doesn't have anything to do with the quality of the product just an unthinking office worker.

The funny part is that I live in the middle of a ten acre subdivision on a dead-end cul-de-sac. I've had UPS/FedEx drop off $500 items without every worrying about problems or theft it just doesn't happen in my area. I guess that's the difference between living on a island vs the open corn belt of the US.

Just food for thought if you buy from them. If you can't stay at home to sign for the box make sure to tell them to not require a signature before you pay.

I wonder if it's due to the international shipping.
I haven't ordered anything from Nick in a year or so, but I never had a problem with receiving the packages. Although, I suppose there is a good chance I had them shipped to my office.

Bummer on the disruption of bliss.

I've been there before. Two options: 1) if possible, have items shipped to you where you work; 2) sign a waiver with carriers to have items delivered to your door without a signature.

Sometimes you have to play the cards your dealt.

Its a bit strange I have packages delivered all the time and for allot more than this hammock is worth without any problems they just leave it at the door so the shipper had to go out of his way on requiring not just a sig which normally only requires a live body to sign for it but a photo id signature which stops having a neighbor sign for it for me.

I'm sure I'll love the hammock when I get it, it's just the getting it part that's hiccuping.

This is worth its own post for everyone's info, because we all get stuff shipped.

    No need to express surprise.

Different shippers and different options included. In short, you may NOT over-ride with some. And, that further may depend on their loss experience. A written note left on a door WILL NOT necessarily do. So, unless you know that a note will be sufficient, plan ahead by directing the shipper NOT to require a signature from you, the recipient.

I ordered my hammock from DD , here in Span they do not deliver te items to the door. Just a slip telling you to go to the post office and pick it up. You have to sign and bring ID, This is a requierment of the Spainish postal system not DD so it could be the carrier.

I picked the hammock up from the Fedex facility, luckily they are open until 11:00pm on the weekdays. I made the mistake of taking my wife (we car pool) after work and she rolled her eyes when I brought the tiny little Fedex sack to the car

It might not be the shipper, or carrier at all. It could be the "Patriot Act" kicking in. The requirement for positive picture ID seems government driven. I'll stop there.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I ALWAYS have anything I order shipped to my work address. This serves two purposes.

    1) Someone will always be at the front desk to sign for the delivery

    2) My wife doesn't need to know EVERY time I place an order for hammock related gear
