Well I did it with your drawing Ganon hahaha. It hangs well and is exactly how I want it. Lots of tail because I wanted a lot of length adjustability. It adjust until there is no weight on the ridgeline.

......I feel the urge to splice more things...WHAT ELSE CAN I MAKE!!

The splicing bug will get ya!! I like to do it if I am bored around the campfire or watching television. I keep a shoe box filled with stuff and make closed loops, nacrabiners, etc. I give them away as gifts to some of my paddling buddies and they are always impressed and thankful. Goodwill from a gift of splicing goes a long way toward making you the kewel dude in the group.

Awesome! I almost enjoyed fiddling around with Paint this morning. I can't be expected to actually do "work" the entire time I'm on shift, right? Anyway, the RL looks great. If and when the need arises, that extra length could come in handy if you want to swap it onto a longer hammock. As for the splicing, the only cure is...more splicing! Whoopies, nacrabiners, chain links, key chains, you name it. It's all good!

I see the pic of the fixed end.
What did you do on the other end?
    How is it adjustable?
What splice did you use on each end?
It is not late and I am not tired, but I am confused.
    Thanks

I have a DIY Speer-style hammock, followed Just Jeff's guide. It has a 108" length.

To make a whoopie-line suspension here is what I came up with using 7/64" Amsteel. I did 83% of the 108", came up with 89.5" I wanted 10" adjustment both ways. Here is my method:

    145" of Amsteel 7/64"

Mark one side at 4" and 7". Make a Locked Brummel. 3" folded in half is a 1.5" loop with a 4" bury.

Then from that loop that was just made, Measure and Mark the follow:

    72"
    80"
89.5" (In a different color if possible)
    120"
    128"
and the end should be 136"

Fold the line back and make the adjust able end and thread the end in at the 80" make and out at the 72" mark. It should go all the way in until the 80" and the 120" mark meet. Then bury the end (136") back to the 128".

The odd color mark will be the magic 83% mark to see a starting point.

    1. Cordage for structural ridge-line. Strength is proportional to weight. If 7/64 weighs 5oz per 100 ft, and a whoopie for a structural ridge-line of it requires just over ten feet, then you are using 1/2 oz of Amsteel. Figure out if, at 21c foot for the 7/64" you are saving much money or weight in using lashit, zingit, zipit, or whatever, that has, say 1/3 the weight and strength.

I deny nobody the opp to save 10 grams and reduce the vast shadow above the hammock cast by 2.5mm cord, when 1.5mm will do, and to do it at whatever price. I would, however, point out, that if you can detach that structural ridge-line, it might be nice to have it as a 10ft piece of spare cordage of great strength for backup or some other emergency use.....like hanging a hammock.

    2. There is no need for the structural ridge-line to be attached to the hammock right at the end of the hammock. You could attach it, say 1 foot beyond each end. Or further, if your trees will always be that far apart. This is worth mentioning, because some HF members have faulted shorter hammocks for their low ridge-lines.

Well, raise it then, by making it longer and attaching it further out.

You have a fantastic point about the detachable ridgeline. Perhaps two fixed eyes with my slings running through them? Or keeping the adjustable line and running it in the same manner
Demostix you always chime in with some good food for thought thankyou

My Ridgeline is a giant whoopie sling. The only thing is that the point ofadjustment is far away from the fixed eye. I'll takes few pictures of it at different lengths. Fixed eye is a locked brummel. The adjustable end splice is the same as the whoopie slings UCR
