So, I am experimenting with something.
And I wanted to hear some feedback from y'all.
I have a Clark North American.
I like the rope. It's light, doesn't wick moisture. Knots aren't that complex or hard to remember.
But . . . I like to fix things that aren't broken.
So I've temporarily replaced the suspension system just for kicks.
Here's a photo of the stock rope, stock knot passed through the hammock's channel (with my Dodge key fob for scale)
You'll notice that the rope loop forms a pear shape. And the hammock material "scrunches" into the bottom of that loop. With weight on the hammock . . . . the middle of that "scrunch" bears most of the weight, while the sides don't.
I pulled out the rope and replaced it with a "parabiner"
My thought being that the biner would distribute the hammock material more evenly across the flat bottom, allowing for weight to be distributed more evenly as well.
Then a webbing loop w/buckle could be put on the other end of the parabiner.

I doubt I'll use this setup fulltime, but . . . thought I should give it a shot.
Any thoughts? Suggestions? Warnings?
I'm sure the first thoughts will be about weight of the setup.
I need to weight it all separately, but . . . I think the
(two parabiners + two webbing w/buckles + two 17' long webbing straps)
is only 8oz heavier than the
(rope +tree straps)
That might piss Mr. Jardine off, but . . . for me, I think 1/2 a pound isn't that significant (especially for motorcycling use). And it may be less than that (I'd need to weigh everything separately on a postal scale to be sure).
