    Amount of down per tube,,,,

What was the method for determining how much down or insulation pertube. Did you have it on a scale and remove as you used it, like some suggest. Also, did you basically just divide the number of tubes into the insulation amount?

Yep. I went back and forth with the size of the baffles and then saw Bloomgorge's Hammock Gear summer sewn through and liked the look.

I knew I wanted 6 to 7 ounces. I use the method of no seeum over the end of a shop vac and filling the tube with down and blowing into the chambers. The tube I use will hold 1/4oz of down. So I went through with that(5oz) then ended up putting another 2oz spread out between the 20 chambers.

    Thanks all

if you're trying to re-purpose the insulation from a synthetic bag i think it would be difficult. if you wanted to modify a synthetic bag i think you'd have a better shot at making something usable. you can buy the insulation and fabric and make a sewn through.

i think kevin was looking for weight savings and pack size is why he went with down and sewn through

    The fabric should be down-proof.
I doubt that all bags for synths are made of so-densely woven fabric.

I don't know about repurposing a bag but it is pretty cheap to make a summer weight synthetic quilt. You could get the fabric and climashield from Scott at http://www.diygearsupply.com/
And with a little bit of sewing, you have a quilt.
