    Any Texas Guys or Gals?

Anyone ever do the Lonestar hiking trail? I wonder if this would be hammock friendly. Its 128 miles, I think it could be done in 5 days or so.

The parts of it I have seen are very hammock friendly. For the best info, check out the Lone Star Hiking Trail yahoo group.

Yep. There are plenty of hangers that visit the LSHT. Bablefish5 goes there and makes videos for his YouTube channel. Plenty of trees and no restrictions on camping off the trail make it a nice trek, but as far as I know there is still a burn ban due to the drought. That includes smoking and camp stoves.

I look forward to the fall with cooler weather so I can do the whole trail. Hope to see you out there.

Yeah, all the NF's in TX are under that most extreme burn ban that includes stoves. I suppose it's hot enough you could probably just rehydrate most meals with ambient-temp water, though.

You won't catch me hiking 128mi this time of year, though. It's enough for me to get the mail.

I tried doing a simple overnight in the Upland Island Wilderness a bit ago (in the heat still but before the burn ban) and bailed because available water was no good. I could only filter about 8oz before my filter would clog.

I am on the LSHT all the time. i'm usually on a section or 2 every weekend. It's very hammock friendly. You'll need to carry a good water filter with you. Most sections water will be a bit questionable. You'll see plenty of wild boar on the trail.

If your in the area, let me know. I am more than happy to spend a day or 2 with you on the trail.

Here is a link to a video I did on section 3 of the trail.

Looks fun. When I finally figure out all this hammock stuff and get one, I would like to try this.

Unfortunately, even though I live in the state, it would take me a good days travel to get there!

I am glad there are guys here familiar with the trail. It would be fall before I would go for sure. Less snakes etc. Shame about the water, might make doing the whole thing pretty tough.

Any other trails etc that you guys suggest?
