    First test run

So, I go over to the park by our house and find a couple of trees to try to hang my hammock from.

First time, I end up with my butt on the ground,

Second time, I ended up doing a backward somersault much to the delight of my 10 yr old son.

    Third time, SUCCESS!!

    My son liked it too.

I see where's there's going to be a little learning curve on getting in and out of it but hopefully with practice, it'll get easier.

Also, I'm hoping to get more time and take more pics or hook up with a vet to make sure I'm setting it up correctly.

It sure was comfy though. That darn Double Nest sure has a lot of fabric. I could wrap myself all the way up in it.

I was surprised how high I had to go on the tree to get it to not hang too low. Should that tell me I need shorter suspension or longer distance between trees. I had the tree huggers approx 6' high on the tree.

Next time I get a chance, I'll try to make sure I remember my camera and take more pics so it's easier to ask for advice.

    Thanks for looking!

If you're using the ENO Slap Straps you may need to replace them as they tend to stretch quite a bit from what I understand. Also remember the further the trees your hanging from the higher you need to attach the straps. The head height rule of thumb is good for trees in the 12-15 ft range, but over 15ft and you have to start sliding them a decent bit higher.

My backyard hang spot is around 16ft and I hang my straps near 7ft unless I want to be brushing the grass with my buttocks.

Congratulations on the successful hang and looks as if you need to purchase another for your son as well.

Ya, he's already saying he wants his own.

The trees were roughly 16' apart. I'm using 1" webbing w/ whoopies supplied by Dutch. So, sounds like to me it was because the trees were a little too far apart.

That sounds like the problem then, and sounds like you found the solution.

Also, I was going to setup my tarp but forgot stakes & guylines, hehe. For attaching the guylines to the tarp, is there a specific knot that's suggested over another?

So, ideally I'd want 12' to 14' spacing?

With my guylines, I use a bowline right at the tarp and a taut line hitch at the stake end of the line. Also look into putting some shockcord on your guyline right where it attaches to the tarp (tarp tensioners).

I've found that depending on which hammock I use, that would determine how far apart the trees were. Course when I'm actually out in the woods, the trees usually didn't cooperate and I'd have to make due with where they happen to be growing!!! For my Clark hammock, I can look for trees a bit closer together. For my BlackBird, I look for trees further apart. Then I look for a stick to lift the tree straps higher on the tree (I'm only 5 foot and just can't reach high enough to attach the tree straps).

As you get more experienced with putting up your hammock, you'll also get more experienced with picking out the best trees.

ran in to the same problems on my first test run yesterday as well but hey thats why we do test runs right the getting the straps to low I guess should be predictable but I couldn't have guessed how hard it was to get up from it when I was only a few inches from the ground but I'm sure we get more practice on a variety of hang spots we"ll get the er hang of it

At 16', you'd need to be around 8 feet high on the trees. Important lesson and one that doesn't seem quite so obvious when you read about it.
