Warbonnet Hammock Questions...

Hi everyone, I'm new to the site and received alot of good information about suspensions with my first post.

I was wondering what the difference is between 4 different Warbonnet Blackbird hammocks?

From what I gather the doubles are good if you are going to use a pad so that you stay on it better. Are there any other benefits from the double?

What's the difference between the 1.1oz and the 1.7oz?

newb to newb i believe that is the weight per sq yard? but it also hints to the strength....heavy material has larger capacity. the two pricier ones have nifty additions like a footbox for a more advantageous lay. plus it has a sewn in netting. and a shelf i believe.. the travellers are no frills but are made to their standards and whatnot....
but thats what i could gather im sure a more learned person will have responded by the timme i am done typing...

The doubles have higher rated weight capacity than a single layer of the same material. That can be handy for matching the hammock to your own mass or desired durability.

The 1.1 and 1.7 oz numbers are the respective weights of the material expressed in oz/yd². 1.7oz/yd² is heavier/thicker material, and thus stronger.

Yeah, tough one to figure out I think until you actually lay in each. With my dimensions, a 1.1dl or 1.7 single is recommended. Here's a thread that I started asking which would be more comfy -- got real good answers promoting each.

I ended up going with the double, which I don't regret, and I do use a foot pad, so I have the option of throwing it inbetween the layers. Good luck.

The other factor is that the heavier fabrics both weigh more AND are a bit bulkier in your pack.

The Blackbird models have identical designs. If you need insect protection, the Blackbirds have it built in.

The Traveler is a "netless" hammock, though you can add a mosquito net as a separate accessory item. The combined volume/bulk of the Traveler plus netting accessory is substantially more than the volume/bulk of the Blackbird.

No. But the footbox only exists to keep the attached netting from reducing the usable space of the hammock bed, since they are attached. It doesn't serve to 'add' room.

That'd be a negative, Doc, the Traveler does not have a footbox.

Thx, I don't want the traveler because I want the bug net. So the only difference between the 1.1 and 1.7 is the 1.7 is more durable? Is it made for heavier people as well? I only weigh 170...what's the purpose of the double wall design besides storing a pad in it?
