Name that cord

In my search to find Zing-it locally, without any luck, a couple people recommended a place here that deals in diving,sailing and kayak gear. They have a wall full of different type cords. The man said he had never heard of Zing-it or Lash-it. He did,however say he had some 1.7mm utility line with 1000lb breaking strength. I have been searching this forum for a few months now and never heard anyone say anything about a 1.7mm line with that strength. He said they use it on kayak rudders instead of the metal cables because it is slippery and has very good abrasion resistance. I have heard of using Vectran for kayak rudders, but he said this is a Dyneema line, not Vectran. When I asked if he was sure of 1000lb breaking strength, he said he could pull my car with it as long as he did'nt snatch the rope! He did not know the Manufacturer or the name, so I'm hoping someone here knows. I've never seen Zing-it or held it, so I have nothing to compare it with. This cord seems a little bit stiff to me. I'm using it for a CRL, which seems like overkill for that. If the 1000lbs is true, you could hang a hammock with this. Any thoughts?

not sure what you have there , but zing it is made by samson, i believe dyneema is also made by them

That is more golden than Zing It. Zing It 1.7 mm is only rated at about 450 lbs. Not sure what that is.

Can't tell in the pics - is it hollow? With 1k strength , seems to me you could make whoopies out of it. How does it compare in cost to Zingit?

amsteel blue (dyneema core)7/64 has a breaking strength of 1600 ilbs ,so i think the sales person was probably correct

It does seem to be a hollow core. I can open it like the Amsteel. It was a little pricey at $16 for 30 feet of it.

i would call em and ask for the specs in more detail, if they cant give it to you in a manner that satisfies your curiousity/hesitation/whathaveyou. then ask for the suppliers info.. to me its like all those carabeeners you see in stores.....alot are just for looks and only a few you would want to risk your life or gear on...and breaking gear cause a salesman said it can handle stuff doesnt bode well with me...ive done that.... and from what i can tell its woven outside with straight fibers in? or are they woven as well. what material is it made out of? you said its for kayaking, so im assuming it can handle the elements..

but at 1.7 if this is a winner i know some Dutch clips that just went on sale that would LOVE that line.

If you look on samson,s website under utility rope, you can see a bunch of rope like that. Probably just not amsteel, something similar.

True, but the 7/64 Amsteel I have is a much larger diameter than this. It is a golden color with a trace of white running through it.

My WBBB 1.0dbl came with a ridgeline that looked like 1.7 braided line, but it was grey/silver and I don't know the break strenghth. Could be similar to this, but I don't think it was very stiff as you describe this. At any rate, you got yourself some good cord for a CRL for sure - maybe even food bag rope. Probably like the No Tangle line since it's a little stiff. But I'd be hesitant to splice it until you were certain of the break strength.
