I was thinking that until I gave my wife the $150 sandals she wanted yesterday!
I am totally into creative solutions and D.I.Y, but now the WBBB I am lusting after doesnt seem expensive at all.

Hammocks aren't expensive at all...
It's the accessories (tarp, TQ, UQ, etc) where they get you!
I, then, always think of all the money on therapy I've saved!

Some people feel the rain. Others just get wet.

After you spend alot on one item for your hammock...everything else just seems so reasonable it would be crazy NOT to get it....then you get it....then your broke..... ;]
Happy Hanging! hope you like your "Bird"
Every time I hang in a tree I get a coconut to the head.....stupid coconuts
So are motorcycles and especially Adventure Tourers with upgrades. Question; Have you ever seen a motorcycle parked in the patient section of a Psychiatrists office? Pretty much the same for hammocks I'll wager. I rest my case...
look at it this way
Hammocks,UQ,TQ,Tarps are not that expensive if you think about it
look at a good Tarp tent that would be close to the weight of a nice hammock system... you looking at about $250+ then a GOOD Sleeping bag runs around
$200+
then a Neo air pad $100
that around $550 .... now it could be more if you get a better bag and a nicer tarp tent or if you go with a big box tent around the same weight your looking at $650+ easy
a nice Hammock setup can be had for under $500 if you do your homework and yes you can go UL with a hammock
i guess what i'm getting at it it doesn't really matter if your hanging or not quality gear cost money ... fabric and down is not cheap and time cost money .... lots of new members try to go the cheap route but always end up getting a UQ in the end.. and it cost them more cause they wasted money on other options that didn't pan out...
i remember when i first started playing around with hammocks in 07 and when i seen the price of a UQ my jaw dropped... but now that i make gear and been around it a long time i understand why they cost so much .. and the time put into them
i always tell new members to do it right the first time.. cause it will cost you more in the end if you don't
It puts the Underquilt on it's hammock ... It does this whenever it gets cold
Not to mention all the money you will save on hotel/motel rooms!
I am thinking that if you take a hammock, tarp, TQ, UQ and other accessories from the fine manufacturers and providers on this site, you would be looking at $700 - $1,000 of outlay.
I would say that is about ten nights worth of stays in a hotel/motel before you have recouped your 'costs' and your therapy savings started to kick in.
That's a bargin!
I have spent a whole lot less on hammock gear than I have on Golf. Which having a hammock is really convenient when I get lost in the woods looking for my ball.....

We never really grow up, we only learn how to act in public.
You can go as cheap or as expensive as you want. I didn't need that $200 tq, I already have a good sleeping bag. Didn't need that WBBB and superfly - I already had a perfectly functional HH and hex tarp. Didn't need the HH either.. I already had a tent...... whoa hold on right there....... I did need to get elevated off the hard ground.
Well...
I am more a fan of hanging now, but my other setup was
Eureka Backwoods tent $120
Small blue tarp (g.cloth)$7
Thermarest $20
TOTAL $147
---------------------------------
My current setup for hanging:
GTUL $25
Bugnet $15
Blue Tarp $10
Paracord $8
webbing $15
whoopies $15
TOTAL:$88
-------------------------------
I am not arguing anything, just sort of thinking out loud, as I agree that the good gear is worth every penny because of the pure joy of getting out and doing something this fun... I have been able to keep it pretty cheap though so far.
...but like I said, that WBBB seems awful sweet and more affordable with every grocery store runs and pair of shoes bought!
