Man if I was doing something like that in alaska my insulation would be in my sea to summit event bag or a dry bag.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?

I line my stuff sacks I want to ensure stay dry with plastic trash bags, in particularly, my down items. I haven't had my backpack dunked in a stream but I believe my down items would come out dry if that happened. The plastic bags are fairly slick so they help in stuffing about as much as the interfere. The cinched stuff sack closes the opening of the plastic bag pretty well and protects it.

Now, I don't believe I could tie rocks to it and submerge it underwater for an hour or so and it come out dry. That is another level of waterproofness that I don't see that I need.
