make single layer out of a double

Just wondering if anyone has made a single layer blackbird out of their double layer - don't even know if it is possible. I am getting ready to order a 1.1 and debating the single vs. double.

I am curious as to why you would want to do that?

If you want a single layer, why not just order the single-layer Blackbird?

EDIT: I see that you are wondering whether or not you should get the single or the double. Read right over that part. Sorry.

im no expert by any means...but from what i could gather the main need for the double was more comfortability whilst using a pad.

maybe if you fancy yourself a handy man and others who have the double could tell you if there was enough fabric to maybe (i just had a brain fart and couldnt spell maybe)
make a traveller version? that would be cool as hell. but also risky?

This could easily be a case of you don't know what you've got till its gone. Until you remove the second layer, you won't know if it is better or worse. But you could be sure that it would greatly reduce its resale value.

If you are truly interested in having the one that works best for you and are unable to try before you buy, buying both and selling the one you don't want is probably a less risky proposition. It may end up cost $20 bucks in the transactions, but in the end you will definitely have a working hammock that you like.

Sounds mildly dangerous, like you might find yourself on the ground if your hammock surgery failed

The double layer adds strength, and the skeeter's can't bite you. You can stuff a pad in there too. If you want the lightest, the single layer will work if you fit the weight limits and will be more comfortable in hot weather.

    Everybody sing!

    I can't remember if I cried,
When we found out that his hammock died,
And something touched his bruised back side,
    The day his hammock died.

    And we were singing,
Bye, bye, my hammock is fried
Drove my Chevy to the levy
    But the levy was dry
And this old Boy hung his hammock too high,
Singing, this will be the day that I die
This will be the day that I die...

    (my apologies to Don McLean)

I went with the double, for the versatility and skeeters too. Can't go wrong with a double.

I ordered a double to protect from skeeters and tougher durability and for foam padding for summer use.

Get the double. If you don't like it, I guarantee you can sell it for what you paid for it and then buy yourself a single.
