    Question Determing angle of hang?

I thought I read something on here about using you thumb & fore finger to look through to get close to 30*. I can't seem to find it now though.

How do you determine your angle? How would you suggest a noob figure it out?

Thanks for you time and ideas!

Hold your hand up like you are shooting a pistol. The angle formed between your index finger and an imaginary line between the tip of the index finger and the tip of the thumb is ~30 degrees. Unless you're Uma Thurman.

If you have a phone with a large screen that can open pdf's, you can carry this protractor. The finger method is the easiest way but it's nice to have a backup.

Similarly, I use the hands of my watch as a compass but I also carry a compass as a backup.

A backup? If I've chopped off my thumb and index finger on both hands I don't think I'd be too concerned about how accurate the angle of my hang was.
Plus it would be pretty difficult to hang onto the phone!

Measured where? Inside edge of thumb would be edge of tree closest to hammock and edge of index finger would line up where? Bottom of hammock?

    Thanks again!

I tried pulling this up on my IPod and it's really light, like the contrast is way off. Is it the file or the way I'm opening it?

Looks like the monitor is in for another round of cleaning this morning - coffee everywhere!

FYI, if you have smartphone you could get a level app.

I have an app for my phone that is a bubble level. I can hold it to my suspension and get a perfect 30*. I like the finger pistol trick, I will have to test it's accuracy next time I hang.
Because you fall through the clouds if you try to lay on them, so the next best thing is a hammock.

Your thumb is the tree, your index finger is level with the horizon (or as close as you can get), and the line between the tip of the index finger and the tip of the thumb is your suspension.

Don't obsess on this...30 degrees is a guideline...it does not have the force of law.
