    Question Determing angle of hang?

I thought I read something on here about using you thumb & fore finger to look through to get close to 30*. I can't seem to find it now though.

How do you determine your angle? How would you suggest a noob figure it out?

Thanks for you time and ideas!

Hold your hand up like you are shooting a pistol. The angle formed between your index finger and an imaginary line between the tip of the index finger and the tip of the thumb is ~30 degrees. Unless you're Uma Thurman.

Measured where? Inside edge of thumb would be edge of tree closest to hammock and edge of index finger would line up where? Bottom of hammock?

    Thanks again!

Your thumb is the tree, your index finger is level with the horizon (or as close as you can get), and the line between the tip of the index finger and the tip of the thumb is your suspension.

Don't obsess on this...30 degrees is a guideline...it does not have the force of law.

This topic should really be stickied. I'm surprised at how often it comes up. I think I'm very happy I never feel the need to hike with a slide rule to hang properly.

So ..... how well do you know this about Uma Thurman? Is there a back story here that we ought to know about????
