Just wanted to post that my wife and I had a successful hammock outing at the Apostle Islands in the North Superior area of Wisconsin.
It was an intense 1hr kayak paddle from shore to shore, with 3 foot waves crashing over the bows of the kayaks!
But we made it.
The island was beautiful, and the campsites were a good 200 yards away from each other so it felt very private.
Plenty of trees to strap to.
We were SOOOOOO thankful that we brought the ENO Guardian bugnets with us because the flies and mosquitoes were RELENTLESS! It was almost a trip ruiner because you couldn't do the simplest of things without getting attacked. We had to be fully clothed at all times in the hot summer sun, couldn't really sit by the fire, and had to chill in our hammocks almost the whole time. Thankfully they were comfy and we had the netting so we could at least relax and read without being swarmed.
So if you go to the Apostles.. you may want some sort of large bug candles and a lot of spray.. also don't be an idiot.. wear a wetsuit and take the training classes before messing with Lake Superior... she claims several hypothermia victims every year.
Peace!
Dan
