Smugglers Ridge / Marramarra Creek Sydney NSW Hike’n’Hang 13th and 14th August.

Calling All Sydney and surrounds based Hangers!!!

Well a few of us have the itch for an overnighter once again, so here is the call out to get together for a hike’n’hang.

Marwood has put some k’s in over the past week looking around and has found himself at a spot that I have been wanting to get to for a while. I have distant memories of going here with my brother many many years ago and feasting in an orange orchard by the river. A few may recognize the spot from a canoe trip report that Phrayzer posted, Mooney Mooney to Marramarra.

Marramarra Creek sits just beyond the end of an approx 8k hike along the Smugglers Ridge track in Marramarra NP.

Here are some words from Marwood –

The campsite at the eastern end by the old orange orchard looks great for hanging for any size group, with a large grove of casuarinas to hang from. NPWS have put the composting dunny up at the other campsite at the end of Smuggler's Ridge about 20 minutes away, where it's pretty much ground dweller territory only. It's about seven or eight km walk in to the campsites along the Smuggler's Ridge Trail. Pretty easy going - it starts off as fire trail then narrows to a foot track, with a steep-ish descent to the creek at the end. The Marramarra Ridge track is a bit more up and down but is fire trail all the way. There's some good views down to the creek when you get close with a highlight being the heaths coming into flower. Other thing to note is that there's no drinking water down there so you have to carry it in.

He was also kind enough to place some marks on this map.

The 13th and 14th of August is set date for the adventure. We have also been talking up a “summer series” of activities where dates can be set with ideas of locations and styles of events to be thrown around the camp fire on this Smuggler’s Ridge Hike’n’Hang.

Come one come all – I know the feedback from our latest Berowra Hang was that everyone enjoyed having a larger group to share gear talk and techniques with, so we hope you can make it along.

Specifics of meeting point and time is yet to be spoken of, so let your thoughts be known.

    Marramarra hang

Just try and stop me, it's a great place for a hang with lots of trees and a fire pit. I might come by water though depending on weather forecast, so count me in swingers.

    youtube link

This is the link from my youtube channel that shows the camp site just to the west of this, very similar though to the one at the end of the trail.

It gives an idea of the lay of the land. Just behind where my hammock is hanging is a large casurina grove very similar to the other site.

****! Sounds like a great trip but I'll be working

SO when are you gonna come up Coffs Harbour way? Plenty of great camping places up here for sure!

Thanks for the invite and maybe I can get down for a future event.

If anyone's considering coming in to the Marramarra Creek campsite by MTB, here's the link to the Northern Beaches MTB Club's info on Marramarra NP and its trails. Includes maps, photos, trail info, and Google Earth views - of general interest as well.

Though I'm well known for doing stupid stuff on the MTB and breaking bits of myself in the process, I'm not sure I'm crazy enough to tackle the descent at the end of Smuggler's Ridge except on foot...

I'm in . My wife is getting good at giving me these weekend passes. She never hesitates and I have already been away for the last two weekends! She is probably having an affair with the plumber/neighbour/postman but if it means I get some mini-adventure time away then so be it
