I was a bit confused by your trail description until I realized that you mangled it. The trail is Mylius Trail and even though there is a Gap it does not have Gap in the name. Maybe if you can you should rename it or no one will find it on a search since Mylitus Gap Loop doesn't exist. Glad you enjoyed it though. Otter Creek is one of my favorite places. The water was definitely raging.

Get ahold of the MNF Trail Guide. It's available on a CD now, as well as in book form. It has accurate descriptions of all the trails. That includes the Cranberry Wilderness, Otter Creek Wilderness, Dolly Sods, and all great areas around them. Well worth it.

You were pretty calm through all that. I would have been freaked a little with water that high and fast.

    Nice job.

Unfortunately that book is wrong if that is what it says. Poor editing. Here are accurate maps of Otter Creek. I've been going there for 25 years and have the all of the Mon NF Hiking guides going back to the early 1970's. It's always been called the Mylius Trail.

Here's a trail marker from said trail:

    and another

I just don't want people looking for something that doesn't exist.

If you want a good book on the Mon get a copy of the Monongahela National Forest Hiking Guide.

I don't carry the book; it's heavy. I used to xerox the maps (and sometimes the trail descriptions). Now I just print from the CD and spray clear Krylon on the maps to waterproof them. (If you don't, an inkjet print will run, and the first things to go are the contour lines. )

Great video! You made good decisions that got you and your dog (cool dog!) out safely. I love that place, but the water sure can come up fast in those mountain streams.

Excellent video. Love that area, used to head up there every summer with my grandparents who stayed all summer long. We camped down in Glady and hiked many of those trails. Thanks for bringing back some good memories of that area, I gotta get back up there. Some of those memories of how bad it would storm down in those valleys.

Great trip report! Loved the area; the view from the tower, and your hiking buddy.

Thanks for sharing it with us!
