This was my first attempt at making a hammock. I made this for a friend at his request. He was having trouble finding one that would support him for our annual Canadian camping/fishing trip. It was 11ft long and 5ft wide. It supported my buddy who is 6'10 tall and 550lbs! He claims he never slept so well camping!!

That hammock looks short, although your friend is a big guy. Maybe just the angle of the photo. I'm not surprised about the weight holding. Nice work.

That looks good but your friend looks uncomfortable from the picture. Perhaps a longer length as others have suggested and also wider that 5ft so that he can lay at an angle.

That's super nice of you to help your friend get into hammocking. If this is indeed your first attempt (implying others to come), they do make 72 inch wide ripstop nylon. I would definitely plan on making a longer hammock and maybe triple up the fabric. So, buy 16 yards of 72-inch wide ripstop nylon, fold it into thirds lengthwise (you don't even have to cut it!) and gather the ends. Easy-peasy!!!
What did you use for suspension? Adding a ridge line will make it easier for him to get the right sag. Anyway, I think he's lucky to have a friend like you!!!Keep us posted!
