I just posted two pix of my BlackCat tarp - I used the ripstop I was telling you about for the corner reinforcements, so you can get an idea of what it looks like. I'll go back to Walmart on Monday and make sure the bolts they have are 60" wide like the one I've got.

Yeah, that's the same color stuff that I've got. I kind of like the look. Reminds me of an elfin grey (Tolkien reference there).

I'm visiting the in-laws and plan on visiting several walmarts across the country to see what they have. Should be an interesting treasure hunt.

Sure makes the drive less monotonous across the boring stretches...gives you something to check for at every exit, even if you're not ready to stop. Kinda fun...especially when you make a find!

So far I found some of the grey that I already have (15 yds) and some 60" wide green stuff that seem heavier (14.5 yds) in Kentucky. I also found a scrap, 1 3/4 yds of the grey stuff in central Illinois. I'm checking Paducah Ky tomorrow and then we will be traveling across Tennessee back to SC. So far it's been a great trip.

I have seen some of the hammocks made of silk. I found some silk/wool blend that I am debating about. Has anyone used anything simular??
    I found some at.. http://www.dharmatrading.com/html/en...bric_silk.html

My thought is the silk would stop the stretching and the wool would add some instillation. This would not be a good choice until you know what you want.

Very interesting find. Could be itchy.

It's sold out. They are also sold out of the 70" wide 10mm silk. I bet a big 70" wide silk hammock would be one comfy SOB .

??The 70" wide is also cheaper than the 55" I bought??

You guys have to stop posting things like that. I already have enough sewing to keep me busy. I do not need any other ideas popping into my head.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?

Remember that just about any fabric will work for a test hammock- it might be darn heavy and bulky, but it will be good enough for lying in to test. I admit I was paranoid about the thing breaking on me- but the comfort won me over. I just had to find a fabric that didn't fill my pack when rolled up. (I kid not.)

Just get something cheap/strong and spring for some webbing (which you can re-use for later hammocks, if you like)

After the bug's bitten, then you can start thinking about interesting fabrics.

Webbing and cord is not a problem. I have a bunch of this stuff lying around. I use it for other scouting projects and just to play with. The big issue for me was an inability to find the rip stop in the desired width in sufficient quantities and at a price that was not prohibitive. That's why I started this thread.
