    Clemson Flavored Sil-Tarp

Still just learning, this is my first big project w/ my "Thread Injector" ( a 1954ish Singer 401a from Anderson SC).

I will be reproducing this hopefully cleaner the next round and I'll get more details on that one as I do it.

pretty badass bro, how long did it take you to make? manhours/ difficulties? i heard with certain mats you can bend a needle, how was your luck? and you said your thinking of making more than one? hmmmm i may have a proposition for you....... but it looks good, what is the ridgeline? is that a sheath? or a reinforcment.

It would be about 8 hours I guess?

I basically rolled out the material the length of a pattern I found, then doubled had a friend hold the fabric and rolled it back the other way so I had two layers.

Then I just stitched all the way down the top, and folded it over so the seam was inside. Then I ironed it, and then ironed the grosgain so it was already folded, then held it to the seam and stitched it back down.

I then laid what I had on the floor and made my cuts for the pattern in both layers at once (nice sharp shears). Then I stitched all the way around the edge w/ a folded over seam. Warbonnet guy does it that way and I've got one of his and a few friends do too, so they seem to hold up just fine.

This one is bigger than any of his, I will see if I like it or if I stay w/ my superfly. I have some college guys I mentor and I want them to be able to afford getting outside and they have time but not money I'm doing this so I can help them make their own gear w/o wasting a lot of material.

I then re-enforced all the tieout points with grosgain and taffeta, then used 3/4" webbing for each. For the ridgelines I chose to leave a loop at the end for using w/ trekking poles and not just wedging them into the triangle tie outs.

It was really simple, the hardest part was figuring out how to stitch the slippery sil-nylon.

I love that this community supports the DIY'ers. I bought from warbonnet guy before I started building my own stuff because of the fact he comes in here and posts and helps people out. His stuff is lighter than this by several ounces, haven't weighed anything yet.

About to try to make a stuff sack for it so we'll see how that turns out.

That's awesome...always great to meet someone on the forums from the area. I will be in Holmes Hall next to the stadium. I'm new to Clemson, only been there twice, but I am excited to check out the lakes and wilderness areas around. Boating the Chattooga...I may have to bring my kayak!
