I took my dad (who has backpacked before, but was a tenter) and my father in law (first backpack trip) for a couple of nights on the rim in AZ. This was their first hammocking experience, and I think they enjoyed it. I borrowed my best good buddy's HH for my father in law. I'd never set it up before, and found that it was pretty easy to do, even the standard tarp that comes with it. It was nice that I guessed which end of the hammock was the foot end and got it up correctly the first time! My dad got to take the first ride in my new BB, and I used my old GT UL. We were cozy under the Noah's tarp. We had a little light drizzle and we all stayed dry, which is a bit of a surprise since I'd never used a tiny tarp like the HH std. All in all it was a great weekend with my dads. My dad did say that tenting has it's appeal- being that you don't have to be as organized: just throw your crap in the tent and sort through it later! If that's the only benefit, count me out!
The pic is of my dad napping in my BB.
