This is one of those times that being retired is a good thing. I'll be down Friday night and probably leave for home Sunday. It's been a long time since i've been down there but don't remember it as being very far. If I wander around enough I'm sure I'll find the service road. I seem to remember there was water trucked in somewhere and a pump. Is that still there?

Awesome w1le. There is a water haul road that leads to camp D. You should try to call zaleski forest tomorrow and ask them if you can get permission to take that road up there and park.

Tendertoe, do you know if that water haul road goes to kings hollow road?

We'll make camp D, the 2nd camp, our official meet up spot. It is exactly 6.5 miles from the trailhead. How late do you guys plan to stay into sunday? Anyone want to stay that night with me? Hammike, I know you want to, haha.

I am just a bit worried about Zaleski, the last group hang there; EVERYONE had the exact same thing for dinner. Everyone thought to pose for the group picture at the EXACT same time. ALL of the Hammock set ups, for the first time in hangout history, were so identical as to be indistinguishable.
OH! Right! I was the only one there

I think I can make it,, got some honeydo stuff that may be that weekend (Family Estate things) but not sure as of yet.

Yes they do. That's how the trucks get the water to the tanks which are 500ft from the camps.

Don't know how mobile you are nor if the above is possible. I have heard of folks parking on the forest roads for the night.

I'm in for any of the weekends in August.

Wilecoyote, sounds like you'd fit in, haha. The area tendertoe is talking about is about 1/2 past the 2nd camp (camp D) its a short hike but all up hill. I don't know what shape you're in but if you're up for that I'd be more than happy to help carry your gear and take our time up. I have spoke with the forest ranger at zaleski and he said they're fine with you parking along the forest roads so long you're out of the way and leave a not in your car explaining your plan.

What about mohican? I hear the "back country" sites are along the trail with parking areas also fairly close. There are pictures of the sites on www.backpackohio.com
    OK, if the ranger said "It's OK" it may well be;
BUT, when at "Z" last time I was told by a local "Do NOT park at or near the water service road under any circumstances! I was towed about 30 minutes after parking there and I WAS OUT OF THE WAY!!!"
I looked, there are (Were) no "NO PARKING" signs where he got the ticket. IF you must be that close, I'd hitch or have a fellow hiker drop me off.

    I'm just sayin!!

Wife just told me I can go, so I'll be there.

zaleski is a very nice place i would like to make i but i'd only be making the friday night part of it. if theres a set date? we are planning on going up there in november and hiking the whole trail. we did also get coordinates to get off the trail to a hidden path that takes you down to the moonville tunnel as a side trail. does anybody have a list of nice trails to hike around here in southern ohio? or within 3 hours of here?

Thanks doctari for helping with that. We'll have to work something out for w1le. I'm glad you're making it.

Nicodumus, official dates are august 19-22. That's fri - mon. If you read back some of the post you'll see most people seem to be doing fri -sun. I will be doing sun - mon, hopefully ill make it up there to night hike in late saturday though. I'm sure the bulk of the people will be there saturday night.

Barefooter. Sad you can't make it. All the trails I know of are covered on www.backpackohio.com those are just backpacking trails though. There's hiking trails all over. You may want to buy the book 50 hiking trails of ohio. There's 2 editions. I'd go with the first. Or check it out at your local barnes and nobles first.
