I was thinking about cutting my foam pad into sections that will fit snugly in the pockets of my Clark for insulation.
I find it uncomfortable if I sleep directly on the pad itself.
Has anyone ever tried this?

I haven't tried that, but maybe it would work. Surely someone on here that has done this will reply. Hope so!

I have never tried it but
I would think if you are laying on the hammock bed you will be comfortable,
warm would then be an issue of insulation in the pockets.
You would need to have it so the pads however many thick,
would be next to the underside of the bed - no air gap.
I have only post this a couple of times . . . but for the cost,
I am an advocate of "quilt batting"
It is light, compresses fine enough
is cheap enough, (6 or 12 bucks)
and if you don't sew,
just cut to size 12" x 24" for 4 pockets
13" x 24" for the two other pockets,
stack the cut peices 4-5 thick and
place them in the pockets.
this will loft about enough to fill the pockets
and give a better insulation than pads, IMO
When you buy the quilt batting you will see that
it will compress to the size of a sleeping bag . . . give or take.
I have done this but sewed a bag for each to house the batting
and New Years night slept out side in only -13ºC
and was to warm.
I hope that helps . . . let us know.

"Using Closed Cell Phone Pads in Pockets"
Don't ya love it when your smart phone helps you spell!
I'm guessing you meant foam, but it was auto-corrected by your spell check. Bites me all the time on my iPhone.

Auctually look a few threads down. I did the same thing your talking about and believe it would work fine. But I got scared because im headed to colorado in september and went ahead and ordered an underquilt.
Thanks for everyone's input. Sorry about the "phone pad" error
I'm still leaning heavily towards getting a nice down underquilt.
I Have Used Zip Lock Bags,if You Become Cold Fill The Pockets With Leaves.put Them In The Zip Bags Or You Can Fill Them With Air.a Pad Is Not Fun In A Hammock I Used A Pad One Time In My Clark, when It Was 7 Degrees.
