I sewed a tarp today using lots of satin pins. It was my first bigger sewing project. Its not the prettiest of things but it seems to be alright and will do the job.

Like asked above - what type of glue stick was used?
When I made my tarp, I needed to cut off the selvage on one sides of the fabric for the top seam. I placed both sides of the tarp on the flat surface one on top of the other. Then I used the hot knife (soldering gun with a flat tip) to cut off the selvage on both sides at the same time. This melted the two sides together. I then took it to the thread injector to sew in the first line of stitching. It worked well for me.
