Sluggie; good pics. I have a question for you or anyone else. What specie of tree are those shown in some of the pics with the pronounced swelling of the truck where the branches are or were. Kind of has an exaggerated bamboo effect. Greyish bark. Thanks in advance.

Mbiraman: Those are Eastern White Pines. (some folks--especially up North, call them Northern White Pines). The branches grow in a "whorl"--a ring--each year. These are in a well-loved camping area. So folks have broken off the bottom branches--which die naturally as the tree matures--to use as firewood. Here's a pretty picture of them in winter:

My goodness that was a gud'en fellers and gals ... King HB and the mighty Running Feather and Hickery ... know how to make a party in the woods! Loved the thrones, the photos and seeing so many Gorge Rats in attendance ... EVEN MOOSE & SQUIRREL! AND MAN was it grand to see Cookie!
