From the guy making the quilts in question......never used one and see no need to. That's my personal opinion be it down or synthetic. Though the smallest tarp I ever plan to use is our Shangri La and it has plenty of coverage if used correctly to block even pretty bad wind blown rain.
My $0.02 take it as it is and no offense for any one for using the undercovers.

I am going to try it without one,,as I use a 10' x 12 OES sil tarp and can close it up,,when the wife is with me,,will give that to her,,as I also have a older tarp made by MOSS from long time ago carried it whitewater kayaking for a shelter sometimes..it weighs 28 ozs with the 4 tie outs, diamond shaped 12 x 12. great tarp,,but a dash heavy,,and gives great coverage till I eventually order another new tarp..and will use it when wife hikes with me.
I was just reading about them on the forum and everybody answered all the questions that had been poping up in the mind..lmao...thanks for all the replys again.
