Poncho Liners in lieu of Quilts or Bags

I am new to hanging but have extensive backpacking experience. I want some adivse on using poncho liners in lieu of quilts and/or sleeping bags. I already know the bags don't work for me in the hammock (HH ASym). Too confining. I plan to us a Big Agnes Air Core mummy partially deflated for my liner. Can I make do with one or 2 poncho liners on the AT in VA during mid-April thru Mid-May??? Any suggestions?? My pack iscurrently at 27 lbs with 4 days food supply and the sleeping bag.

Basic ponch liner is good to about 55 provided no wind.....any breeze and best to figure 60.... YMMV.... estimate from there, but one is not enough in April most anywhere on AT.... BTW, GI issue PL is 21 oz and pretty fair bulk... better answers abound...

Thanks Pan. Looked at JRB site. Will also look for more methods. Half my time will probably be in shelters so most any type of quilt will work or cover. Now it is down to the weight issue.

Not a direct answer to your top side question but I too use the BA Air Core pad partially deflated in my HH and have had good success with it. Below 40deg or so I have used a 1/4" ccf pad for extra protection and that combo has kept me plenty warm.

My topside solution is a BA bag which mates to the pad. I use the optional zip-in down expansion wedge on the bag which makes the bag very unconfining for me!
