Packing it all up

Suggestions for packing my whole kit up, hammock, stakes, tarp, straps, bugnet, etc......

What does everyone use, single bag or multiples?

For me anything that gets wet (tarp, tree straps, tarp tie downs, etc) all go in one sac on the outside of my pack. The hammock with the bugnet attached goes in the pack to stay dry.

I pack my insulation loose in a contractor garbage bag at the bottom. Then goes my hammock in its own stuffsack (sometimes i put this in a bag to if I'm expecting heavy rain). Then a stuffsack of my clothes, my first aid, survival and such sacks. My cook kit and then food. In a mesh sack on the front of the pack goes my poncho, tarp (in snakeskins) and rain kilt. In my side pockets goes my sit pad, water bottle, ditty bag, stakes bag, water treatment (aquamira) and stove fuel.

Thats my basic pack. Hope this helps.

When I pack up I put my hammock with underquilt and topquilt in place into one bishop style bag, stakes and straps go into a small bag and my tarp goes into it's own bag. The bishop bag has made setting up and taking down a breeze

I took the advise from some of the more experienced guys here and pitched most of my stuff sacks. It actually saves a lot of space (and a little weight). Clothing and food have their own bag. Cook kit is self contained.
Quilts, hammock, jacket just get crammed in the pack, filling all the voids.
Tarp and its rigging go in an outside pocket.

As an experiment, you can pack everything in its stuff sack. Then repack without all the stuff sacks. You'll see what I mean. Basically, you end up using your pack as a giant compression sack.

I use, basically, the same method as gargoyle. Works like a charm, just don't put off deploying that pack cover when the time comes.

my hammock has an attached bugnet. I leave my quilts inside it and then the hammock with the quilts gets stuffed into a turkey roaster bag which then gets pushed to the bottom of my pack. I compress it and then twist and tuck the bag neck to disallow air to re-enter and then pack stuff on top.

Right now each component is in it’s individual stuff sack, then all packed into an Exponent waist pack, with the outside zipper pockets holding lines and stakes and the odd lot, then the whole thing goes in a dry bag since all my camping is done out of my kayak, where weight is not an issue, volume is....

Good to see I'm not the only one with camping OCD.....

Agreed. It took me a long time to learn that lesson, but I've been doing it that way for a while now. Works like a charm. I use a contractor bag to line my pack with, stuff it all in, add what needs to go on the outside and I'm ready to go.
