Exclamation A hang with 2 guys from REI in MI

Two of us are Going to do a hang Wed Aug. 17 and thurs. Aug 18 in pinkney, I know its very short knotice and hard for people to go during the week but I wanted to get my first night in the new HH so I took the chance when it poped up, (getting two days off in a row) if anyone wants to join give us a shout, both of us are of course very experienced backpackers.

Do any of you Mi hikers know a good place to hike and hang in this area I've been to green lake site and the common to this forum blind lake site and would like to find another place to go out there that is great for hammocks perhaps there is a spot that is good for a hang but not so good for tents or just a spot other than the other 2 I named.

The only backcountry site at Pinckney is blind lake and you have to register at the ranger station at silver lake. There are 10 sites there that accommodate hammocks very well. All other sites in any of the local state Parks are drive in.

I should have added, if you get me a job at REI ill go tonight. There is a pump at blind lake so you do not need a filter.

I just got back Monday from a quick overnight solo hike to Blind lake.
I didn't know I could go until Sunday so I didn't sent out invites or I would have. But ... Beware right now!!! .. The mosquitoes are a nightmare!!!!!!!!!!

About 1/2 mile in from Silver Lake I had to pull out my head bug net and I never could take it off. They were so bad I could not even stop and take a break or I was just swarmed with them. They were everywhere and it didn't get better. I probably got about 40 bites on each of my hands, plus 20 or 30 on my face and neck.

When I reached camp it didn't get better, near the lake they were crazy too. The only time I had peace from them was in my hammock. Oh, by the way it rained all night long so my hike out was just as bad.
Luckily I wore long pants, and a long sleeve ExOfficio Bug shirt .. but they still loved that. Bug spray didn't work either. It could have been worse if I hiked with shorts and a tee I would have eaten alive.

I won't go back until the temps at night get below 50* that way the mosquitoes will be mostly done with. Right now there far to many swamps out there for my liking!

So after that give post something about going back out there and I'll probably go! ...

Ya know what's funny ... while I was at the HQ I asked about the bugs .. They said black flies were to a minimum but ... there were some mosquitoes out there. Now when you drive out with a truck ... I am sure there was no problem.
But ... come on ... it was worse then North Manitou in August. They could have said it was bad! ... If this cool weather continues you should be fine at Blind Lake. Good luck!
