Success! Well it's finally my birthday and I got to open the hammock!! The first step was to switch out the stock attachments with my own continuous loops + SMC descending rings. Then attached all the other fixings and headed outside.
Once I hung up the hammock, it was time to try it out. I did the (probably) obligatory fall onto my butt. I guess one of my whoopies wasn't milked enough...because as I sat down, I ended up sitting on the ground. Fixed it and hung successfully...however I was sagging. Turns out the tree choice #2 I used is not strong enough and was flexing, so I switched to use tree choice #1.
Success!! I just came in from an hour worth of lounging. I tried lengthwise, diagonal and chair style. I definitely like diagonal style the best.
Lessons learned:
-I like lounging in a hammock!
-I'll probably need to make more tree straps since tree choice#1 has completely sapped up one of my tree saps. I left it on the tree b/c I don't want to get any other gear sticky. (Question: Is it safe to leave tree straps on the tree until my hanging season ends? I assume it shortens the life of the straps. Or can they be washed?)
