My wife and I are headed up to Grayson Highlands this weekend and will setup just north of the park off the AT. Just wondering if anyone else will be up there as well.

When it goes over their heads, it really doesn't matter how high it is.
I'm planning to be there next month. Picking my son up somewhere on the trail and going to the Hot Springs hangout, then up to the Highlands. I've never been there, but the photos I've seen look beautiful. Be sure and post when you get back and let me know how it is. I'm new to the backpacking part of camping and a little worried
You should have nothing to worry about. Just keep an eye on the weather and plan accordingly. You can get some general info on the Grayson Highlands website. I think I have heard this is the most used wilderness area in the eastern U.S. My wife and I have been there a few times and it has been great. The first time was the weekend of Thanksgiving a year ago and it did get down to 19 degrees with a pretty good wind blowing so do keep an eye on the weather. Saw "wild" ponies in the morning and everything was encased in snow and ice, really beautiful. You can see a couple of pics of our last campsite in the gallery.

I'm not worried about the weather. I'm well set up for the cold after spending New Years Eve on Springer! I'm worried about how many times I will have to stop to get the pounding out of my ears! Not in the best physical condition, but that's why I'm doing this!
