    Urethane Coated Ripstop

I just bought 8 yards of Foliage Green 70D 1.9 oz urethane coated Ripstop from DIYTactical. It was only $4.00/yard, which I thought was a good price.

This is a lightweight Foliage Green, 70 Denier, 1.9 oz Ripstop Nylon fabric with a waterproof, urethane coating. The fabric is 60 inches wide and Sold by the yard.

Great for use in making lightweight tents, rain flys, field tarps, Ponchos etc.

1.9 oz is the weight per square yard (not linear yard) of the fabric before coating

This fabric was bought as seconds from the manufacturer but we have been unable to determine the reason why they were sold as seconds.
I know it'll be relatively heavy. If I make smaller things out of it mixed with uncoated or DWR ripstop nylon, maybe I can mitigate some of the weight.

Anyway, I think I'll have some fun with it, and see what I can make. I've needed a rain hat... Should be fun.

Keep us posted on how that works out for you. Do you have a pattern for the hat or are you just going to wing it?

Oh, winging it, definitely . I've got an idea that it would be something like a sou'wester, but not sure yet.

I might make a tarp out of it, maybe a "GreenCat" tarp? Like I need another tarp...

No, scratch that. Not. Gonna. Happen.

How about a hanging water bag, a gravity filter, a hammock undercover, pack cover/gear hammock, different sized stuff sacks, blackbishop sacks, slowhike type end covers w/storage?

Lots of uses for waterproof material.

Ok, so I'm just trying to justify my purchase...

Try a G4 pack out of it....would be good up to 20 lbs carry capacity and weigh 12 ounces or less. Thats what I used to make mine. Has one season on it with moderate use and no rips or punctures. Just a thought.

    Just a follow-up.

I got my material yesterday in the mail. It's a greenish greyish ripstop, a teensy bit heavier than 1.9 DWR (I would estimate around 2.2oz.). I could not blow through it, and it passed the water test (3 hours, no drips) so I would say it IS waterproof. It's slightly more rigid than DWR too, but not so that it would make it hard to work with. I'm pretty pleased with it, actually, especially for the cost.

I'm considering making a hanging water bag and some stuff sacks from it first. Not sure I'm up for the G4, and I've got a couple of packs already. Good idea though GT.

If it comes to 1.9 oz pr square yard, then actually, it may not be heavier than 1.9 DWR ripstop. All of the 1.9 DWR I have ever used is actually 2.2+ oz per square yard because of the DWR treatment.

Good point. I was just thinking it was heavier because the site said that it was 1.9 oz. before coating. I just need to weigh it myself I guess. I'm not much of a gram weenie, so it's ok with me for it to be 2.2 oz.
